Product Details

A school principal of a New Zealand registered school may use the Ministry of Health ‘Authority to Possess Medicines (Emergency Medical Kit)’ to obtain a bronchodilator (“reliever”) inhaler for inclusion in an asthma emergency kit, without the need for a prescription.

(Regulation 44(l) Medicines Regulations 1984).

The Authority and the Cardiac and Respiratory Foundation's letter must be signed by the school's principal, prior to being dispensed by a licensed community pharmacy. The supply of a prescription medicine in these circumstances is not funded by the Government, so there will be a charge for the bronchodilator inhaler. Schools include primary, intermediate and secondary schools (not pre-schools or kindergartens).

This kit contains:

  • Spacer
  • Information booklet including record of administration
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Ministry of Health authority letter for obtaining a bronchodilator (‘reliever’) inhaler for the emergency treatment of asthma in schools
  • Information and request letter template for the School Principal to complete and sign.
